It is tough being at the forefront of the NBA nickname movement, but you know what they say about DTB…he doesn’t shy away from the spotlight. Unless the “spotlight” is him going outside and interacting with other people like a normal human being. Then he shies away from it a lot.
Anyway, the challenge of creating new and unique nicknames for NBA players sometimes seems too much to bear, but at other times, I relish the challenge and thrive on it. Now is one of those times that I’m thriving, because I just came up with a great new nickname for Rodions Kurucs that is sure to gain widespread usage within days, if not hours or minutes, of its official debut:
“The Rod Show”.
It looks a bit weird spelled out like that, but try pronouncing it with the first syllable of “Rodions”. If you’re pronouncing it correctly, it should come out sounding like the word “roadshow”. Now that your feeble little mind understands my masterful new nickname, just take a second to pause and think about how awesome it is. Awesomeness of this magnitude deserves to be acknowledged.
It’s a perfect nickname because it implies that it’s a “show” whenever Kurucs plays. It implies that Kurucs will always “put on a show” no matter who is defending him. It also pairs nicely with Jarrett Allen’s nicnkname, “The Fro Show”. Since the Kurucs/Allen tandem is hopefully going to be kept together for many seasons in Brooklyn, it makes sense that their nicknames are similar.
Honestly, the only downside is that the nickname has the word “rod” in it, and “rod” is a slang term for a certain part of the male anatomy. This unfortunate attribute of the nickname can be mitigated if the nickname is limited to verbal use only. However, I fully intend to call Kurucs by the nickname “The Rod Show” in all further textual references to him. Because I fully believe in the quality of this nickname.
