By my calculations, Gary Payton’s 10-day contract with the Wizards is just about to expire. He picked a really good time to efficiently score 11 points in a quarter while playing good defense and almost leading his team back from a 25-point deficit. Because now the ‘Zards have no choice but to give him a second 10-day. After that, who knows what will happen. The most likely thing, I guess, is that he goes back to the G-League to keep dominating because the Wizards don’t really have a spot in the rotation for him.
I think the idea of Payton is more fun than the actual article. Who doesn’t want the son of an NBA great on their roster? Well, we already know the Wizards don’t because they got rid of Glen Rice Jr. a long time ago, but still. It’s fun to connect NBA past with NBA present by having a player like Payton. But aside from that 25-point explosion, he hasn’t done much to get people excited about having him on a team.
He did trick Jason Kidd into starting him a few games for the Bucks, I’ll give him that.
