Dennis Smith Jr. Triple Double 13 Pts/10 Rebs/15 Asts/1 Trade Full Highlights (1/30/2019)

Attention Wojarooski: you have to wait until DownToBuck is done uploading videos for the day before breaking the news of a blockbuster trade involving many good players. Otherwise we find ourselves in the awful situation we currently find ourselves in: a video getting uploaded for a player who is no longer on the team depicted in the video.

Even more confusing in this case, is that Dennis Smith Jr. got traded to the opponent he just got done thrashing. Future people watching this video are going to be so befuddled. Perhaps even bamboozled, or gobsmacked.

I guess the Knicks liked what they saw from him tonight. Little do they know that he hardly ever gets it into his head to pass this much. He might be PG-sized, but what he really likes to do is score the ball. In that sense he would be a good fit alongside new franchise savior Luka Doncic, who likes to pass, but the thing with Smith Jr. is that he likes to have the ball a lot as well. The Knicks should be used to PGs like that, so there should hardly be a change on their end.

I’m still kinda processing the deets of this huge trade, so don’t expect any more hard-hitting analysis regarding it for at least a few days. I need time to think things over. This was a real doozy of a deal. But here’s a thought experiment to pass the time: how many points would DSJ needed to have scored in order for the Mavericks to have kept him? 50? Probably not. 100? No way could they trade a dude who just dropped 100. Gotta be somewhere in between.
