Lost in the grinning happiness of the Nuggets season is the fact that Trey Lyles is one of the worst three-point shooters ever. Or, if he isn’t, he’s doing a very good impersonation this season. He went 3 of 6 here against the Timberwolves, bumping up his percentage from 24 to 25 percent, so that’s improvement. But he’s still only making a fourth of his triples while shooting a whole bunch of them.
I realize the hypocrisy in criticizing a player for sucking at threes while I’m a fan of the team that has Giannis “Airball” Antetokounmpo out there missing everything. But this is a Lyles video, not a Bucks video, so I’m going to call it as I see it.
In the end, it doesn’t really matter, because the Nuggets are still really good and he’s still getting a decent amount of points, but what if he turned back into last year’s version of himself? That would just kick the Nuggets up a notch. If he did that and Gary Harris improved in a similar way to his old standard, I’m thinking the Warriors wouldn’t have a chance.
