Ex-Grizzly Marc Gasol tonight: 8 points.
Ex-Raptors tonight: Delon Wright, 25 points, Jonas Valanciunas, 17 points, C.J. Miles, 12 points.
Those numbers themselves make the Raptors-Grizzlies trade at the deadline look bad for the Raptors, but lets check every player’s average with their new team before jumping to rash conclusions.
Gasol: 11 PPG. Wright: 9 PPG. Miles: 8 PPG. Valanciunas: 18 PPG.
Maybe Gasol brings something intangible to the table, like “veteran leadership” or “ability to make Kawhi’s uncle shut up through physical intimidation”, but, from a pure stats standpoint, the Grizzlies are looking like they came out ahead in the deal. Sure, they gave away a beloved star player whose name was synonymous with Memphis basketball, but they got back a bunch of guys who have no problem replacing the loss of prodction.
Even funnier, the “tanking” Grizzlies beat the Blazers, who are a solid playoff team, while the “solid” playoff team of the Raptors was handed a loss by the Rockets. Ewing effect? Ewing effect!
