I will take issue with anybody who continues to allege that Spencer Dinwiddie had a “good” season last season. He had an okay season. Maybe it was good from a raw stats perspective and from a “repeatedly making deep, clutch three-pointers” perspective, but it was below average when it comes from a “scoring efficiently” perspective. This is a less controversial viewpoint to hold now that we’ve seen how good Dinwiddie can really be. To go from averaging twelve points per game to seventeen points per game, on considerably better percentages, while actually playing slightly FEWER minutes, it pretty dang good.
There are multiple fanbases who are currently lamenting the fact that they let Din-Dins slip away from them for nothing (or, in the case of Cameron Bairstow, worse than nothing). Both Pistons fans and Bulls fans are watching this guy be the best backup point guard in the league and thinking to themselves “we could have that instead of [Kris Dunn/Reggie Jackson]”. Meanwhile, the Nets are overflowing with point guard talent (Russell/Dinwiddie/Napier has got to be the strongest three-man point guard rotation in the league in terms of sheer quantity of talent) to the point where Din-Dins doesn’t even start unless there’s an injury.
And you know those other fanbases are also feeling the burn because Din-Dins straight-up has the most handsome goatee in the entire league. I’m actually considering switching my allegiances to the Nets just so I have an excuse to watch Dinwiddie’s goatee on my screen for the full 82 games. My name change to “AllNetsAreOff” is pending.
