Well, this is embarrassing. All this time that Thomas Bryant has been the starting center(basically until a few weeks ago) I was under the assumption that he was getting big minutes. But a closer look at his game log indicates that he usually doesn’t even get twenty minutes per contest. That actually makes sense given that he’s still a raw, young center who plays with such a high motor that he burns out quickly, but still. For some reason, I thought he was a thirty MPG-type guy.
Bobby Portis started at C for the ‘Zards this game. I guess he’s tall enough to play some center as long the opposing center isn’t Joel Embiid or Jusuf Nurkic or somebody big like that. Normally I would gripe that Portis is stealing minutes from Bryant, who needs them more in this lost season that the Wizards are playing out, but I understand it. Bryant needs to be brought along at a slower pace. Domination doesn’t need to happen right away.
If anything, Bryant should be writing a thank-you card to Dwight Howard for getting injured and not playing much this season. Something like “I’m sorry you tore your ass muscles. I’m averaging 18/10 if you look at my per 36 stats. Your best per 36 stat is cheeseburger consumption. LOL”
