Dwyane Wade 20 Points/5 Assists Full Highlights (3/23/2019)

Here’s an interesting philosophical question: if a player makes a nice move to score but everybody knows it’s a travel, should a replay be shown of that move? On one hand, the move looked cool and the refs didn’t call anything, so it was a “legit” basketball play. On the other hand, travelling violations should not be glorified even if they weren’t called on the floor, plus it’s embarrassing to see a slow-mo of the travel so that everybody can say “yep, that was definitely a travel”.

This question comes up because Dwyane Wade totally travelled on an up-and-under at 0:58 in this video. Even the Heat’s homer announcers couldn’t ignore the fact that Wade took an extra-large, extra-extra step at the end of his move. There were replays available to be shown, but I didn’t show them because of the reasons listed above. There is still some doubt in my mind, but I think I made the right call.

Wade had some nice turnarounds/step-backs later in the game, and he generally took the game over in the fourth quarter, so that one uncalled travel isn’t that big a deal. Just make sure not to include it when you’re making your epic hour-long D-Wade retrospective after his retirement.
