JaVale McGee is coming off a career-high 33 points (plus 6 blocks) that was mostly the result of his body getting genetically modified by aliens who were summoned to Earth by a tampered-with FM radio. It’s hard to tell if the genetic modifications were reverted, or have somehow worn off, or if they’re still there but weren’t used as effectively; in any case, McGee had a decent game, but it wasn’t nearly as good as his previous effort.
That said, he was a perfect 8-of-8 from the field and had five blocked shots, not to mention the dunks that McGee always brings to the table, so that’s reason enough to make a highlight video for him. I can’t allow his recent career-high bias my view of how talented he is. Those 33 points could be a statistical anomaly never to be repeated, or they could be the new norm, or the real truth could be somewhere in between. It will take time to figure out what McGee’s new level of scoring is after this, so for now, I’ll just pretend he’s the same old McGee with some extraterrestrial DNA thrown in.
The Lakers’ season is basically over now, so there’s no reason to limit McGee’s touches or minutes. Give him all he can handle of both. The result will be skyhooks, jumpshots, turnovers, ill-advised dribble moves, and a heck of a lot of fun for all involved.
