The ‘Zards are doing their best to follow normal NBA protocol for the end of the season as a non-playoff team: rest all their veteran talent and try to get as many minutes for their young guys as possible. You know who we didn’t see in this game? Jeff Green. Or Trevor Ariza. Or Wesley Johnson (which is said because we might never see him again after this year). Everyone who played against the Jazz was as close to a “young player” as they can get. Bradley Beal is the exception, but he’s leading the league in minutes, you think he’s going to sit?
Troy Brown is one of the players who is benefiting from the current situation (don’t call it tanking though). The start of his season was a mix of DNPs and limited garbage-time action, even as the Wizards lost all their games and maybe could’ve used an infusion of… something. Something that Brown could’ve offered, maybe, we didn’t get to find out. Then March came around, and now he’s getting consistent minutes! And here comes April, there’s only a few games left, and he’s getting 25-ish minutes per game now!
With Beal still getting minutes, along with a few other shot-shooters, Brown isn’t being as aggressive as I’d like trying to score the ball, but at least he’s playing. That’s something. The guy you picked with the 15th pick isn’t going to get better just sitting around watching the team implode. Man, what a wild ride this ‘Zards season was. Do people even remember that they have Dwight Howard?
