It’s not likely we see Bonzie Colson in the playoffs, so I guess this probably the last we’ll see of him this season. He’s certainly done a lot more in the games where he got mintues (this game and that Hawks game) then I ever thought he would. I was expecting his career to go something like this: a few garbage time buckets at the end of blowouts, with maybe 12 points in the season finale where he played 20 big minutes. And then he’d get let go during the offseason, and we’d never see him in the NBA again.
That last part could still definitely happen. I don’t think we’ve seen enough from him to say definitively that he’ll be part of the NBA family next season. We’ve seen a lot, though. 21 points is nothing to sneeze at, if you can do it something of a sustainable way (threes and dunks are what I’m thinking about it here). There are lots of players who make whole careers out of never scoring 21. You think DeSagana Diop ever scored that much? Heck no, and he was, like, a valuable role-player for a few seasons there.
Note: at the end of this video, it appears that Russell Westbrook is directing “too fat” comments at Colson. I disagree with Westbrook on lots of things, but there’s an assessment I can agree with.
