Attention all 29 other NBA teams: this is what can be yours if you let Tim Frazier dominate the ball for an entire game. Not just some of the game. Literally ALL of the game. The requirement for monster statlines for Frazier is that he play all 48 minutes. Any less, and his confidence is shaken and he doesn’t do nearly as well.
The stats for games where Frazier plays all available minutes (including an overtime game): 49 points, 28 assists in two games. The stats for games where Frazier doesn’t play all available minutes: 26 points, 14 assists in ten games. Basically he goes from averaging 2/1 to averaging 25/14 when the coaches display their confidence in him by not letting sub out even if he’s really tired and begging for Gatorade so that he doesn’t die.
We’ve always known that Frazier needs big minutes to be productive, but this is something else. Has there ever been a case where someone is outrageously non-productive and then has monster games just by virtue of getting to have the ball in their hand for an entire game? I’m thinking Kobe Bryant’s 60-point finale as the closest comparison here.
I’m hopeful that some GM of some random team will watch this video and think to themselves “that is our backup PG of the future”. If we’re lucky, maybe even “that is our PG of the future”, no “backup” qualifier needed. I like to think that, at least one time, some FO person has watched one of my vids to do rudimentary scouting on a player. Probably Magic Johnson (RIP) has done so multiple times.
