Had the Spurs won (spoiler alert: they didn’t), Rudy Gay would’ve been the hero of this game. He did a bunch of things, not just this game, but in the whole series, that would’ve elevated him to temporary Duncan status in the hearts of Spurs fans.
Heroic deed one: he scored 9 straight points to end the first quarter, bringing San Antonio’s point total from a “worst of all time” 4 to a “not so bad but still pretty bad for it being a god-damn game seven” 13.
Heroic deed two: I can’t think of any more heroic deeds for Rudy Gay.
Heroic deed three: nope.
Well, anyway, it was good of him to score 21 points this game, making up somewhat for the total lack of production from Derrick White, who is apparently a huge big-game choker. Gay is no stranger to big games, or big moments, and it showed. Okay, that’s a lie, because he only made the playoffs one time before coming to San Antonio, but it sounded good, right? He definitely seems like the kind of veteran who wouldn’t let anything faze him because he’s seen it all before. Easy to forget that he’s been a career loser with empty stats for the whole time he’s been in the NBA.
