Ja Morant got off to a very hot start in his debut, making three shots in the first four minutes and causing both the Grizzlies commentators and all Grizzlies fans watching from afar to salivate copiously. If he had kept up that rate of scoring and his coach decided to ride the hot hand by playing him the full 48, he would have dropped, like seventy points. As you can tell from the title of this video, he only dropped fourteen, not seventy, so the hot start which tantalized all observing fans was not sustained.
Note that I say “his coach” because I’ve lost track of who the Grizzlies’ coach currently is. I’m pretty sure it’s not J.B. Bickerstaff AKA Joe Blob Dickerstaff. I’m also pretty sure it’s not Dave Joerger. I’m going to look it up right now and see if the name rings a bell at all.
Okay, it’s Taylor Jenkins. Taylor Jenkins is the coach of the Grizzlies. That name doesn’t look familiar to me even in the slightest, but now I know and now I can issue a direct command to him: you have to give Morant as many minutes as he wants and needs. This game is a good start, and Morant did some good things with the minutes he got, but you can’t lose sight of the goal. The goal is to tank while developing Morant and also praying every night to God that Morant doesn’t turn into Collin Sexton 0.5 with a better haircut.
