Tommy Heinsohn is 85 years old. I probably would’ve guessed 80, but once people start getting up that high, I stop being able to tell. He could be 100 for all I know, and I wouldn’t be surprised, because he was winning hella championships with Bill Russell, and that era of NBA basketball was a LONG time ago.
Given how old he is, I’m surprised to hear him still doing Celtics broadcasts occasionally. And I’m even more surprised to hear him be somewhat cogent most of the time. By the time I’m 85, if I’m still doing these descriptions (which I totally will be, scrublights will NEVER die, EVER), I’ll be totally incoherent. I’m already relatively incoherent, and it will just get worse and worse until I’m typing nearly-random sentences vaguely arranged to make some kind of inscrutable point. That’s kind of like what the experience of listening to Heinsohn is right now.
He sure does like Carsen Edwards, though. Homerism never dies, they say, and it’s clear Heinsohn is just as much of a Celtics homer as he ever was. The way he was talking about Edwards, you’d think it was his grandson or something. Maybe he thinks Edwards is his grandson. Again, I wouldn’t be surprised.
