For the first three quarters of the game, as far as I can tell, the only thing that Kendrick Nunn did besides shoot (successfully or unsuccessfully) was grab a rebound and notch an assist (with no time left in the third). No turnovers, no free throws, no fouls, nothing except shots. I’ve always thought that you don’t truly earn the title “pure shooter” until you literally do nothing on the court besides shoot.
He started doing a little more in the fourth quarter, so his statline didn’t end up being an absurd collection of zeros next to his 19 shot attempts. We could start calling him the next Tony Snell if he did that. Heck, we could start calling him that anyway. The comparisons are there, except Nunn is about a thousand times more willing to control the offense than Snell. Maybe a million times more willing. Okay, it’s becoming less good of a comparison.
I want to take this moment to congratulate Nunn on his second career offensive rebound. I don’t know what the first one looked like, but this one was pretty simple, his own missed three bouncing right back to him so he could drive in and dunk it. It may not seem like much, but when someone doubles their career output in a particular category, I can’t help but congratulate them.
