It’s getting hard for me to deal with all these different spellings of the name “Terrence”. There are now four different spellings all active in the NBA:
“Terance” Mann (the protagonist of our story)
“Terence” Davis
“Terrance” Ferguson
“Terrence” Ross (who possesses what I consider to be the “correct” spelling)
You can see how this situation could negatively impact my life in a significant way. Any time I make a highlight video for any of these players, I have to double- and triple-check the spelling of their name so that I don’t make a fool of myself via typos in the video title. Then again, the average casual fan will have even less of an idea than I do about what the correct spelling is, so I could easily evade detection no matter how bad my misspellings are.
I mean, would you have even batted an eye if I spelled Mann’s name as “Terrince” or “Terants”? No. You would have assumed that I, as the renowned highlight uploader and walking NBA encyclopedia, would know what I’m doing. I could even make up the dude’s name completely and some viewers would take his existence at face value. “Yeah, I was really surprised when Theodore Mannheim didn’t get drafted. He looked great in college,” you would think to yourself while watching “Theodore Mannheim 13 Points/8 Assists Full Highlights”.
Anyway, I can’t let this description go by without actually talking about Mann’s performance. He hit some really tough shots and also made some nice passes. The Clippers totally blew out the Hawks and I think Mann was a big contributor to the blow-outage: his plus-minus was an obscene +41. That seems like a rookie record to me, even though basketball-reference apparently doesn’t let you search on the plus-minus stat. Yeah. We’re going to just assume that +41 is the best individual game plus-minus of any rookie this season.
