It will forever confuse me that Kevin Porter Jr. is NOT one of Michael Porter Jr.’s many brothers. I was confused before the season started, I’m confused now, and I don’t forsee the confusion ever stopping. Do these NBA players realize when choosing their character names that they have to do more to differentiate themselves from each other lest people get confused? If Kevin Porter was named “Keevon Potter” instead, there’d be no problem.
Apparently I’m just totally clueless about this guy because I had the idea in my head that he was a way higher pick than he actually was. He did get selected in the first round, but only barely; as the 30th pick, he gets that first-round money but nothing more than that. Maybe I’m confusing him with Darius Garland? As well as Collin Sexton? The Cavaliers have so many young guards that are all exhibiting varying levels of suckiness that I just try to ignore them all and hope they go away.
I can’t ignore this performance by Porter, though. He might have choked from the free-throw line (3-for-8 after starting his career 14-for-14), but you cannot deny that he scored 18 points in this game. It’s simply undeniable; all possible references cite the same point total for him. 18 points in a single game this early in the season is not something guaranteed from a young guard picked where he was picked, and I expect that the appropriate level of hype will be shown in the comment section.
