Bryn Forbes has been the model of consistency this season, hitting between 3 and 7 shots in every game this season, or if you include only November, between 4 and 6 shots. You know what you’re going to get from him coming into the game, you can plan around that, unlike up-and-down players like… everybody else on the roster. That was the thing that everyone liked about Tim Duncan so much, right? His consistency? The spirit of Duncan lives on in Forbes.
But I don’t want the spirit of Duncan. I want the spirit of Stephen Curry. I don’t want consistency. I want mind-blowing three-point shooting bonanzas. Forbes is the one guy in the NBA most suited to replacing Curry in the public’s imagination while the real Curry is busy trying to find the remaining fragments of his shattered hand.
I mean, if you squint real hard and adjust the colors on your monitor to turn the Spurs jersey a little more yellow, you can easily imagine that it’s Curry running around, shooting threes and diming teammates in this video. Easily. I just tried it, and I actually freaked myself out a little bit. And if you showed this video to a casual and said “check out this new Stephen Curry mixtape”, they’d totally be like “wow, I love Stephen Curry, didn’t know he played for the Spurs these days”.
