Moritz Wagner 14 Points Full Highlights (11/26/2019)

Moritz Wagner, as you should definitely know, had a 30-point game almost two weeks ago. That was a great game, 13-of-15 from the field, 15 rebounds, he was abusing Karl-Anthony Towns all night long. Definitely the defining game of his career thus far.

In every other game this season, he has scored between 7 and 14 points, with the majority of the games falling in the 12-13 range. If you were expecting great things after his 30-burger, you weren’t alone, and you probably aren’t alone in being disappointed. Because what he seems content to do is average 12 points a game while almost never actually scoring above 12.

Which is why I made this video. I should have to be making a 14-point highlight video for a guy averaging 12 or a guy who scored 30, but here we are. Wagner is making me do this with his consistently average scoring. This is the third-highest scoring game of his career, dammit. How is that even possible?

One thing I’ve noticed is that he’s shooting an exceedingly high percentage on two-point shots. Around 70 percent. That’s sick, but it means that he’s not being aggressive enough shooting the ball inside the arc. A few midrange jumpers never hurt anyone. Neither did some optimistic post moves. If he’s ever going to be the next Dirk Nowitzki (still waiting on Tim Ohlbrecht, by the way, you Germans have a lot to answer for with regards to that dude), he needs to expand his game.

Otherwise he’s going to be the next Jan Vesely. Yeah, I frickin’ went there, and I’m not sorry.
