OFFICIAL NBA PLAYERS FROM EGYPT POWER RANKINGS – ALL TIME EDITION
1. Abdel Nader
2. Alaa Abdelnaby
First off, I want to apologize for not making these power rankings a “Power Pyramid” (which would be extremely appropriate considering the country in question). I wanted to, I really did, but such a Power Pyramid would require at least three players (1 on the top layer, 2 on the bottom layer), and Egypt only has two.
Now, I realize that the ordering of those power rankings may cause some consternation among Egyptian NBA fans, or regular NBA fans for that matter. Yes, I realize that Abdelnaby has had, to this point, the far superior career to Nader’s. But here’s the deal: DownToBuck, like everyone else on this blighted hellscape we call “Earth”, easily falls victim to what’s known as “recency bias”. And here’s what’s been happening recently with these two players.
Abdelnaby: hasn’t scored an NBA bucket in a really long time, but has been busy tainting otherwise fun 76ers broadcasts (gotta love Marc Zumoff) with his somewhat inadequate commentary.
Nader: just got done spanking the Trailblazers to the tune of 23 points, an amount of points that falls squarely into “legit” territory.
And that’s all the justification I need to put Nader above Abdelnaby in the power rankings. I don’t care that almost all of his points, 19 of 23, came in the fourth quarter with the game well out of the Thunder’s reach. Points in the NBA are points in the NBA, and it’s not like the Blazers defenders were just letting him score. He legitimately scored those 23 points in a very impressive fashion, and not only that, the video evidence is right here for me to see, unlike whatever good scoring games Abdelnaby had.
