Davis “The Greatest Shooter Drew Gooden Has Ever Seen” Bertans is, according to Drew Gooden, the best shooter that Drew Gooden has ever seen.
Ever.
Gooden, no exaggeration, pretty much said exactly that in this video, I’m not making it up or anything (I would never make fake news like that). This might be Gooden’s attempt to boost his national profile by uttering a blatant falsehood in the form of a “hot take”. Sufficiently bad “hot takes”, like the ones said by various ESPN personalities, get people talking about them, and as they say, any publicity is good publicity. Problem is, no one is really caring about the Wizards right now, so the amount of people who even heard his claims is very low.
The other problem is that maybe he’s right. Well, he’s definitely right, because Gooden can think whoever he wants is the best shooter ever and that fact that he thinks it is not a matter of opinion. But maybe some sort of consortium of basketball experts, operating under narrow enough parameters, could somehow come up with a definition of “shooter” that makes Bertans the best ever.
He’s certainly a very good shooter. That part is not in doubt. The Wizards’ really lucked out with this guy falling right in their laps, and he fits perfectly in their “all offense, literally no defense” scheme. He can shoot threes that not many players in the league can shoot, though threes off screens or threes that fall in “Curry Range”. Gooden is on to something here.
