Dillon Brooks 26 Points Full Highlights (12/1/2019)

I’m usually fine with the home commentators being total homers. I mean, you can’t spell “homer” without “home”. Being biased or reactionary is basically in the job description. But when Memphis commentator Brevin Knight says, in reference to Dillon Brooks, “he has been the most explosive scorer that the Grizzlies… … have had in the last couple years”, that’s just taking it too far.

Now, I left out part of the quote, as you can see from the ellipses. That part was “in quarters”, which is referencing Brook’s (apparently laudable) ability to get super hot in a single quarter and then not do much else for the rest of the game. But still. Brooks being the most explosive scorer for the Grizzlies for the last couple years, in any sense, is either utterly false or a damning indictment of the teams the Grizzlies had been putting together during the grit-n-grind era.

Does this dude even remember about the other Brooks, MarShon Brooks? I would characterize his scoring as “explosive” when he was averaging 20 for them at the end of… what season was it? The year before last? Yeah. There’s a reason that people (mainly just me) called him Mar$wag. Because he had swag. And he was money.
