After Dewayne Dedmon had a good game somewhat recently, I thought to myself, “This is it. Dedmon is finally going to start playing well again and chip away at the minutes that Richaun Holmes has earned for himself.” Sometimes my thoughts are those of a fool, and this time was one of those times. How I could I think something so foolish? Here are their statlines from the loss to Chicago so you can do the comparisoning yourself:
Richaun “Yo Holmes to Bel Air!” Holmes: 20 points, 9-of-12 shooting, 9 rebounds, 0 turnovers, 4 fouls in 33 minutes
Dewayne “Judge Dedd” Dedmon: 2 points, 1-of-2 shooting, 7 rebounds, 3 turnovers, 3 fouls in 11 minutes
As long as Dedmon is bricking threes and being a turnover machine, Holmes is going to get as many minutes as he can handle, since they’re the only two centers getting minutes right now (Puke Walton just really hates Harry Giles, I guess). And why shouldn’t Holmes get all those minutes? He’s like this year’s version of Montrezl Harrell, except with 75% less yelling. Dedmon is this year’s version of Andrea Bargnani (who apparently is retired from basketball now, RIP in peace).
I will say that all these minutes coming Holmes’ way bode well for a long and exciting dunkilation at the conclusion of the season.
