Bryn Forbes, for his first few seasons, was one of those guys where you’re like “wow, this guy is a great shooter, but he needs to be more aggressive looking for his shots”. And because you’re an idiot, you don’t realize what kind of an effect that such a mindset will have on his overall efficacy.
That was me. I was the idiot. Because now Forbes is shooting more often (at least from three) than he has in the past, by quite a bit, and it has caused his percentage from out there to tank. He’s scoring more points (which is always a good thing in my book), but the elite three-point percentage that caused me to frequently compare him to Stephen Curry is no more.
That doesn’t mean I’m going to stop comparing him to Stephen Curry, though. The only thing (or combination of things) that would stop me from doing that is if he stops being lightskin, grows a couple inches, and starts dunking on people.
I think Spurs fans were starting to get annoyed with him a little bit, which made me sad. He’s one of the few legitimate young talents that the Spurs have, and if they’re ever going to regain their championship mojo, it’s going to be with Forbes playing one of the Ginobili/Parker roles. Now that he’s scored 25, they’ll be back to being happy with him again, and turn their frustrations on someone else. I’m thinking DeMarre Carroll.
