Every molecule in my body is screaming at me to compare Duncan Robinson with Heat legend Jason Kapono. Truly, the comparisons are there: Kapono averaged 10.9 on over 50 percent from three in his best season of his career, which came with the Heat, while Robinson is now averaging 11.2 on a mere 44 percent from three. There are numerous other similarities, but I simply cannot make the comparison, because both players are white, and that means it would be a lazy, unthinking, and vaguely racist comparison.
So we’re going to go with Voshon Lenard as the vintage Heat player comparison for Robinson. It’s a pretty decent comp, Robinson is a lot taller though, so it’s not as good as Kapono would be. But when the alternative is being a racist, I’m going to take “not as good” every time.
We’ve now factually determined that Robinson is the next Lenard in Miami, except taller. That’s pretty good for Robinson! Lenard was actually very decent during his second year in the league (and second year with the Heat), as well as the year after that. Those were the only two years he shot above 40 percent from three, probably because of the shortened line that made everyone into a sharpshooter. Hopefully Robinson doesn’t regress like Lenard did and instead gets better and better until he’s challenging Curry’s (or perhaps Harden’s, in the future) three-point record.
