This video is basically the exact opposite of the Damian Jones career-high 20 points vid I just uploaded. Whereas Jones can basically do nothing but jump and dunk, Kaminsky can do everything EXCEPT jump and dunk. Sure, he dunks it sometimes (he even did it in this game), but things have to align pretty nicely for it to happen. Jones can just do it whenever he wants.
To make up for his underwhelming (at least by the high standards of the NBA) athleticism and T-Rex arms, Kaminsky developed himself into a skilled all-around offensive player. Most of this development occurred in college, because he had four years there to hone his craft; has he really gotten better at anything since coming into the league? I guess those analysts were right when they said he might already be near his peak as a first-year player.
Still, if this was still the 1970’s, he’d be a really sick player. Probably would average 20 like Bob Love or something. He’d get to use his fun post moves a lot more than he does now, that’s for sure. Those post moves don’t really work reliably at the NBA level (no one’s really does anymore except for Donatas Motiejunas’), which is kind of sad. I bet he spent literal days over the years spinning around like a ballerina and then shooting his little midget-arm hook.
