I shouldn’t have said all those mean things about Terrence Ross in the last video description for him. He has well and truly put me in my place. He has “sat me down” so to speak. With two twenty-point games in a row and his slump perhaps coming to an end, the furious pen of my rage has been silenced.
Can I even be blamed for my past negativity, though? Terrence Ross plays for one of the least exciting teams in the league, the Magic, so the negativity surrounding them will necessarily rub off on Ross as it will necessarily rub off on everybody else who has the misfortune of being trapped in Orlando.
Case in point for the Magic being a completely unfun team: they won this game by a score of 93-87. In today’s scoring-first, scoring-second, scoring-third, and scoring-fourth-through-tenth era, such low scores are an insult to the fans who are giving their time and money to tune in. This season, eighteen games have been won where the victor scored fewer than 100 points. The Magic account for three of those (wins of 93, 94, and 95).
Just for fun, I looked at the stats for 11-12 season, which may have been the low point for the league in terms of scoring (until you go back to the early 00’s, at least). That season, there were 94 instances of a team winning while scoring LESS than 90. That hasn’t even happened this season. How did anybody watch that crap? In the worst example of scoring futility, the Lakers beat the Mavericks by a score of 73-70. RIP Jason Kapono. RIP Ian Mahinmi.
This year’s Magic and their 103 points per game (29th out of 30 teams) would have been FOURTH in the 11-12 season behind the Nuggets, Spurs, and Thunder. They would be only one point away from best scoring team in the league. Again, I ask, how did anybody watch this crap? I know I watched some of it but I must have repressed those memories. And watching this Magic team is un-repressing them. That’s why Terrence Ross has fallen out of my favor.
