Bruce Brown was basically useless on offense last year. He started a whole bunch of games for the Pistons as a second-round rookie, which is actually pretty cool and a nice accomplishment (not even being sarcastic right now), but he didn’t DO anything. He played defense, which is technically something as opposed to nothing, but since I don’t care about defense, he might as well not have even been on the court for most of the minutes he played.
Good news! This year, he’s looking a lot better on offense! He’s not, you know, going to be putting up monster statlines regularly (his 22 and 7 game earlier this season is as monster as it’s gonna get), but he’s not totally afraid to try and score the ball anymore. And that Summer League triple-double he had convinced him that he can adequately pretend to be a point guard for stretches. And you know what? I’m convinced too, of his adequate pretending.
During this game, the Pistons showed some sort of graphic that showed what Brown held opposing stars to while defending them, and even my defense-hating brain thought it was pretty impressive. If he can combine that defensive prowess with maybe slightly improved offense, heck, he’s a pretty valuable role-player, right? Or am I totally wrong here and he still sucks? Pistons fans, I know I’ve dissed you in the past, and I’m sorry, but I need you to tell me if you still hate Brown or if you think he’s okay now. I’ve lost track of your collective opinion.
