It’ll be overshadowed by some other impressive wins that happened tonight (that I don’t know anything about, I don’t think the Bucks even played), but Ja Morant and the Grizzlies just pulled out a really nice victory over Jimmy BUTTler and the cHeat. Unlike a lot of teams (Spurs and Bulls say hi except they don’t because they’re too busy lying face down on the ground), the Grizzlies got a big lead and actually managed to hang on to it for the most part. The Heat did come back to take the lead at one point in the fourth, but my narrative doesn’t work as well with that fact thrown in, so just forget about it.
Is it safe to call this a “Signature Win” for Morant? He’s only got 8 other candidates to choose from; his 30 and 9 performance in a 1-point win against Brooklyn might be a reasonable choice, but that game was won on a buzzer-beater and all he did was assist it, not make it. And the Nets sucked back then because they had Kyrie Irving, so it wasn’t a very impressive victory. The Heat are a much better team and he made them look like the Hornets. So yeah, we’re going to say this is a signature win for Morant. He’ll have better ones as his career goes along, don’t worry. He’ll probably make the playoffs eventually and eventually he’ll even win some of those playoff games.
I would also like to take this moment to remind everyone that teal is absolutely the BEST color on the whole spectrum, and the Grizzlies NEED to keep these alternate jerseys around except just make them the regular jerseys. Vancouverites may be slightly miffed that all their branding is being reappropriated for this, but they can just shut up, because they had a team and then let them leave because they were too busy watching hocket.
