Remember when the Hawks were 2-0? Since that fast start, they’re 4-23. They’re losing games they should win (or at least have a chance of winning, there’s not really any game on their schedule that they “should” win), and they’re losing games they should lose (that part’s okay). Sometimes they manage to acquire a lead and then blow it and lose. Sometimes, rarely, they win.
I know this video depicts the scoring exploits of one Jabari Parker, but I just want to mention that Trae Young might be the best tank commander EVER. He puts up the gaudy stats and plays exciting basketball so that the fans tune out, but he plays negative defense (I’m pretty sure he figures the faster the opposition scores, the faster he gets to touch the ball again) and his play leads to almost no wins. Not yet, anyway, and definitely never unless the Hawks make some serious talent upgrades, either from within or by signing Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Jabari Parker can stay, though. Like Young, he is capable of getting buckets but doesn’t exactly believe in defense. But you can fix that. Not by fixing him, which obviously isn’t going to happen, but by ALSO acquiring Rudy Gobert, who fixes all defensive ills for any player that is sharing the court with him.
So right now the Hawks lineup of the future is Young, Parker, Antetokounmpo, and Gobert. They just need a shooting guard, and let’s just slot Kevin Huerter in there and call it a day. Wow! That’s, like, a championship contender and I didn’t even have to work very hard! I don’t see why they won’t let me GM. Maybe it would be too unfair to the other 29 teams.
