A lot of crazy stuff happened at the end of this game, some of it involving Robert Covington, some of it not involving Robert Covington, and neither team really looked like they wanted to win, but win the Timberwolves did. It had been a full month since their last victory, and it showed, because they had no idea how to close this game out. Die-hard tankers might object to this win, but even tanking teams need to win once in a while, just to make sure they can still do it for when they get good again.
And I’m not sure the Wolves are tanking yet anyway. I think they just suck.
Anyway, yeah, they got the win, and Covington was a major part of that. His defense supposedly hasn’t been as good as it has in years past, but he did manage a nice defensive lockdown of Bogdan Bogdanovic near the end of regulation. And his offense hasn’t been as good as it has in years past, but he managed to put up 19 points. I hold my breath every time he goes for a layup, because you never know what’s going to happen with those, but he hit a few.
Timberwolves fans can stop hating on him now, right? At least temporarily? It’s not his fault that he was one of the original parts of “The Process” that really worked out but then got traded right before the whole thing came together in Philly. It’s obvious that that experience deflated him a bit, and who can blame him. Now he has to play in a city that doesn’t even have a deep and meaningful cheesesteak culture and also doesn’t have any playoff hopes.
