Yes. Keep it up Ja. As long as you keep having these twenty-point games with large amounts of assists, eventually the media will have to acknowledge that you are the undisputed ROTY of the Year no matter what Zion Williamson does when he comes back to the court. Catching sick lobs can only further solidify your candidacy.
The media had anointed Zion before he even got drafted, but even they cannot be so incompetent as to continue to push the “Zion is not only the ROTY of the Year but also the best player drafted in the past ten years” narrative while Ja Morant is doing what he is currently doing. Maybe Ja Morant is the one who should have refused to report to the team that drafted him like the talking heads on ESPN were suggesting that Zion do.
Speaking of that, would it not be the most hilarious thing ever if Zion somehow forced his way to the Knicks, flaunting every protection that teams have when it comes to retaining the rookies they have the draft rights for, only for his knees to turn into crumbly toast during the preseason? That would be the most Knicks thing ever. Their tears would have sustained me for weeks.
Anyway, back to Morant. He’s the ROTY of the Year. Give him the trophy now. Even if Zion comes back and averages 20/5/5 on 50% shooting (AKA the “Rookie Tyreke Evans” line), he hasn’t played enough of the season to qualify. Morant, meanwhile, is durable and he’s also helping his team blow out the “championship contender” Clippers. No more arguments need to be made. Just mail the trophy to his house.
