I think I’m properly applying the term “irony” when I note the irony of the Washington Wizards commentators talking about how Johnathan Williams is “finally looking comfortable”, given that Williams, as of this morning, has been waived by the team.
That’s right. After playing twenty MPG per game in six games for the ‘Zards, starting five of them, and shooting 68% from the field, Williams is bye-bye. The ‘Zards probably didn’t want to do it, but Williams was signed on an injury exception, so when the injured player (or players) return, then the exception has to end. I’m sure Williams was informed of this by his agent when the contract was signed, but it still fills me with a vague feeling of sadness.
Apparently, Williams’ G-League rights aren’t even held by the Capital City Go-Go, so there’s basically no chance that he comes back to the Wizards. And he’s such a fringe guy already that he might not get another shot in the NBA. I think he showed enough in his short stint with the ‘Zards to get looked at by another team, but you never know. I’m the guy who thinks Shawn Long should still be in the NBA, so obviously I’m not the best evaluator of talent out there.
But, yeah. Shawn Long should definitely still be in the NBA. Him and Henry Sims.
