Daniel Gafford is getting consistent minutes now, which is an improvement over the beginning of the season when he often wasn’t getting into games at all. However, I am of the opinion that he’s still not getting enough playing time. He’s looking like prime Dwight Powell out there, and Powell’s been leading the Mavericks in win-shares for the last five years running. That’s the kind of player that you want to make sure is developed properly.
Luckily, DownToGM is here to rescue the Bulls’ front office from the suffocating weight of their own incompetence. Heroically, I rush in to lift that weight off of Gar and Pax, and when they stand up to thank me for saving them, I drop that weight back on them, crushing them and ensuring that nobody gets in the way of me making all the GM decisions for the Bulls going forward. My first move? Trading Thaddeus Young to the Pistons for Thon Maker. If the salaries don’t work out, maybe the Bulls get Tony Snell back too.
It’s a perfect move. Young hasn’t quite worked out the way everybody wanted, so you move him and give more minutes to the up-and-coming stud Gafford. Maker sucks and can’t be developed so you don’t have to mess up your big man rotation by trying to give him minutes. The Pistons do this because Blake Griffin is going to undergo surgery to repair his screwed up knees. Thaddeus Young can be like Griffin 0.9 without as much ball-hogging. Also, the Pistons seem hell-bent at chasing the eighth seed no matter what the cost, so acquiring a replacement for Griffin rather than tanking out the season would be a primary goal of theirs.
Note that I have copyrighted this trade idea so if the Bulls front office tries to use it without hiring me first, I’ll sue them.
