Tony Snell, somehow, is getting worse at accumulating stats that aren’t points. For a guy who was already very poor in that area, this is a disturbing development. His rebounding is at a career low. His assists are actually fine, but steals and blocks, very low. Turnovers are also extremely low, which is a good thing. Somehow he’s only 4th in the league in turnover percentage (beat out by Rui Hachimura, Davis Bertans, and Nikola Vucevic), it seems like he should be first considering he never does anything (like try to dribble or pass) that should result in a turnover.
That said, I still love him. He was a really fun player on the Bucks, his lack of statistical impact offset by his impact in the locker room. Giannis loved him, I’m pretty sure. He was always a good teammate. I’m sure he’s still a good teammate, but I bet he’s not as beloved in Detroit as he was in Milwaukee.
With Blake Griffin out for the rest of the season and Andre Drummond possibly getting traded soon, it might be wise to prepare ourselves for a reality where Snell is tasked with picking up more of the offensive load. Snell should also prepare for such a reality; time to start working on midrange hesi jimbos, pick-and-roll passing, and stuff outside of being a catch-and-shoot player who sometimes attacks hard closeouts.
