I had been under the impression that Admiral Schofield, owner of the coolest name in the NBA, had been in the G-League for the past couple weeks. I hadn’t been noticing his name in box-scores, so it only made sense to me that he would be getting reps in the G-League with the Capital City Go-Go (a team whose name must have some local significance because it sounds dumb as eff to me).
What’s really been going on is that Schofield has been getting into games, but hasn’t been scoring points. It’s understandable, then, that I’d fail to realize he was even playing, because the hyper-advanced machine-learning script I use to aggregate and display box-score data puts the lowest priority on players who score no points. After all, how would DownToBuck make a highlight video of a player scoring no points? It would be the lamest video ever, and my machine-learning algorithms know that.
The last time Schofield made a shot was December 23, which is like two weeks ago now, but, in fairness to him, he was getting only two or three minutes in some of these games, not enough time to attempt a lot of shots. He got 35 minutes in this game, which eclipses his previous season-high in minutes by ten, and he proved that he can score if given that many minutes, because he also set season-highs in points (18), field goals attempted (13), and field goals made (8). Twenty should definitely be happening by season’s end.
