Yes, I know the boxscore for this game says that Lonnie Walker scored 19. At least, as of the time of this uploadment it does. That could chance at any time. Because I assume that at some point the NBA is going to be like “holy crap, we just jeopardized the entire integrity of our statkeeping system by erroneously awarding the points for a free throw to a different player than the one who actually shot it”. Adam Silver is going to be SO MAD when he finds out.
I can see how it would be confusing; the foul occurred while Walker was taking (and making) a three, with the foul consisting of a simultaenous push of DeMar DeRozan by Jaylen Brown. If I was a dumb scorekeeper, I could see how I would get totally confused, zone out while the refs figured out what really happened, and then mindlessly register the resulting free throw for Walker.
I’m pretty sure of what I saw. I can tell the difference between DeRozan and Walker pretty easily. Walker is the one with what looks a petrified sea creature from the paleozoic era perched on his head, and DeRozan is the one who is always chucking midrange shots (though Walker was doing his fair share of that in the fourth quarter). It was for sure DeRozan taking the free throw, not Walker, so I resolutely stand by my assessment that Walker only scored 18.
“Only”, a strange term to use when this is one of the best scoring games of his career.
