Bryn Forbes was quite close to pulling off the “Tony Snell” with a 21/2/0/0/0 statline last night. All that stood in the way of him and a perfect, unbroken row of zeros was two rebounds that he could have let other teammates grab. However, I will give him a pass for this because he got his first rebound two minutes into the game, and there was no way that he could know that he wouldn’t be accumulating any stats other than points for the remaining 46 minutes of game time.
Since Forbes really only contributes to the game by scoring, a statline with so many zeros in it isn’t really a surprise. Nobody expects him to be out there whipping pintpoint passes and crashing the glass like he’s Russell Westbrook reincarnated. However, Spurs fans are annoyed with him because he’s regressed as a scorer compared to last season (turning from a great three-point shooter into one that’s just a bit above league average) and hasn’t developed any other skills to make up for it. Then, when he takes minutes from high-upside guys like Lonnie Walker, that conveniently sets him up to be the scapegoat even though his shooting would be useful in most lineups on most teams. Marco Belinelli is also a scapegoat in this situation. They’re co-scapegoats.
If the Spurs are looking to move Forbes to create more opportunities for other guys on their roster, the Bucks would happily take him in exchange for Thon Maker. No take-backs though. Especially if it turns out that Thon Maker isn’t on the Bucks anymore. But he totally still is so this trade should absolutely go through with no issue.
