Luke Kornet 15 Points Full Highlights (1/11/2020)

Near the end of last year, Luke Kornet kicked the Bulls’ butts. Hard. He dropped a career high 24 points on them. The butt-kicking was administered with such grace and dexterity, but also force, that the Bulls had no choice but to offer him a 2-year, 4.5 million-dollar contract.

I made a video for that performance, which was viewed many times by Bulls fans who somehow missed him kicking their butt while it was happening and had to go back and experience the butt-kicking just to see what he would be bringing to their team. That was during my annual “impersonate other highlight channels” April Fool’s Day event, and the text on the thumbnail read “Yeah sorry Monix, we don’t even got Korn Dogs”, a slightly modified version of a quote from one of my favorites scenes of the classic Will Ferrell comedy, “Semi-Pro”. The “Korn Dogs” part referencing my nickname for Kornet, “The Korndog”.

That video probably misled a lot of people (mostly Bulls fans) into thinking that Kornet was some sort of a good player, when the reality (that Knicks fans could’ve told you about had you asked) was that he was a bad player who could sometimes hit shots. I’m sorry for my part in the mass misleading of a whole fanbase, but it’s mostly their fault for being so easily led astray.

Kornet has not been good at all for the Bulls this year. His three-point shooting, the one thing that makes him even semi-valuable, has not been there. His two-point shooting has sucked as well, but that’s not the problem. He’s supposed to be a stretch five, but the only thing that’s going to be stretched is his contract if he doesn’t step up.

Good on him for scoring 15 points tonight, by far a season high. He pretty much dominated the Pistons by himself in the second quarter, rendering Lauri Markkanen (who he is basically the same as, talk about roster redundancy) temporarily irrelevant. This isn’t going to last, but at least the Bulls got one good game out of him.
