Cam Reddish 20 Points/5 Steals Full Highlights (1/12/2020)

Cam Reddish has now had seven games this season where he’s hit more than one three-pointer. If you just read that stat without thinking about it, that doesn’t even seem that bad. Making multiple three-pointers in a game is a good thing! Hitting four of them in a single game, as Reddish did tonight, is awesome! The thing is, Reddish attempts four three-pointers a game. He averages one make on four attempts. He’s got the volume, he just doesn’t have the accuracy.

Is this like an Anthony Bennett situation? By “Anthony Bennett situation”, I mean a situation where a player can’t even hit shots in an empty gym. If a player can’t splash shots in an empty gym when guarded by nobody and with no eyes on him other than the eyes of the short white guy rebounding the ball, then there’s no hope of their shooting ever translating reliably to game situations. And I feel like that’s where Reddish is at right now, despite my possessing no hard evidence to back up my assertion.

I guess I shouldn’t rag on Reddish too much. Nobody with a functioning glob of gray matter in their skulls thought that Reddish would be an effective scorer right away. The Hawks have time to develop him, and if he turns out to be undevelopable, well, it was worth the risk. Sometimes it’s worth picking a skinny Anthony Bennett with the hope that he’ll turn into the next Paul George. And with Reddish putting up games like this more often, the latter outcome seems, thankfully, more likely than the former outcome.
