Here’s a thought experiment for you: try to imagine any on-court action performed by Serge Ibaka while he was in Orlando. This one’s tough, so I’ll give you some time. Think REALLY hard. Close your eyes, picture Ibaka, and then place a Magic jersey on him. That might help jog your memory. I’ll be back in two hours to see what you have recalled from your depths of your brain.
Okay, I’m back. Come up with anything?
No, I didn’t think you would. Ibaka’s tenure in Orlando was hardly notable. He put up some nice numbers, but since he was on the Magic, no one cared. The thing people most remember about him and the Magic is how much the Magic gave up to get him (Ersan Ilyasova, Victor Oladipo, and Domantas Sabonis) and how little they got back for him once they decided to trade him for whatever reason (Terrence Ross and a crappy first-round pick that ended up turning into even more second-round picks). He did have a game-winning baseline mini-jumper against the Thunder while in Orlando, but that was the only thing I could come up with.
So don’t feel too bad about your lack of memories featuring Ibaka donning a Magic uni. Instead, feel happy that you got to see him win a championship in Toronto.
