Dillon Brooks is now comfortably averaging over 15 points per game. That may not sound like a lot, but that’s because you’ve become desensitized to scoring by the incredible outputs of some of the starts of the league (I’m thinking James Harden here, his scoring makes literally everyone else in the league look like Thabo Sefolosha). 15 points per game is, in reality, a very legitimate amount of points, way more than most of the NBA is scoring.
I’m curious how high Brooks can go with his scoring before anyone outside of Memphis notices. I’ve compiled a list of people who for sure know of his scoring ability who aren’t in the Memphis metropolitan area:
-Zach Lowe
-DownToBuck
And that’s it. Despite his shot-making ability, which verges on Kobe-esque at time (I am not even being hyperbolic right now, I am for real comparing Dillon Brooks to Kobe Bryant and you can call the cops all you want but it’s too late for them to stop me), Brooks is totally anonymous on the national level.
I bet he can get up to 20 ppg without even a single mention on a national sports news outlet. We’re talking ESPN, The Athletic, DawkIns, FS1, BleacherReport, all that stuff. And no, DownToBuck’s internationally-renowned highlights channel does not count. Because obviously I’m mentioning this dude all the time, he’s basically ruining my life with all the 20-point games he’s been having lately.
