Furkan “Korverkmaz” Korkmaz, if the universe were fair and just, should have had 27 points in this game (which would have been even career-highier than this), but the refs, once again showing the gross incompetence that has made them a laughingstock all across the world, took one of his three-pointers away. I figure the 76ers are going to get around to it fairly quickly, but I am in the process of filing a grievance with the NBA. Perhaps this game can be re-played, actually, don’t replay it, there’s a chance Korkmaz don’t go off in a re-played game, all I want is for him to get his three points back.
Is it his fault that the 76ers had 6 players on the court when he hit his second three of the game? No. He was definitely supposed to be on the court. Why are we punishing him for something he had no part in? One of the most basic tenets of any competitive organization is that they don’t punish innocents for wrongs that weren’t theirs. The NBA becomes a bigger joke by the day. They don’t even need to give the 76ers the points if they don’t want to. Just give them to Korkmaz, nothing has to change except for his official point total in this game. He shot the ball from behind the arc, the ball went in. That’s three points in every basketball game I’ve ever played in.
While we wait for the NBA to amend his point total (which will necessitate a re-uploadment of this video, but that’s fine), we can admire the 24 points Korkmaz had that the NBA mercifully decided were kosher. Try as they might, they could find no reason to disallow his other 6 threes, his pair of free-throws, his floater (sidenote to Korkmaz: never shoot a floater again, you are too good to be shooting floaters), or his dunk. Combine those things and we have a performance that has him really living up to his “Korverkmaz” nickname. We knew that something like this was possible when he dropped 40 in a Summer League game, but this should only be the beginning. I know I’m not the only one who wants a 40-burger from Korkmaz in the real-life NBA.
