I get the feeling that the Warriors have their own little version of “The Process” going on right now where they know they’re not going to be competitive, so they’re just trying to figure out if any of the guys on their roster are worth keeping around when they presumably return to title contention next season. Are these guys G-League fodder that has no business playing with the big boys are are they legit contributors to a playoff team?
Philly’s version of The Process famously didn’t actually yield that many NBA-quality players, but the Warriors’ version is actually turning up some decent-looking dudes, maybe because the Warriors initially signed them with the hope that they would be able to contribute to a championship run this season. Philadelphia, on the other hand, had aspirations for the first overall pick, so didn’t feel the pressure to sign players who would contribute from day one.
Glenn Robinson III (GRIII [pronounced “Greeeee”]) is one of the players that has turned out to be better than advertised. He’s actually good enough where you could start him next to Curry and Thompson and not have to be angry about it. Some players implode when they’re asked to do more on the court than ever before, but GRIII rose to the challenge and is playing the best ball of his life. A player like Willie Cauley-Stein reacted in the opposite way and was so replaceable that he just got traded. I honestly didn’t expect GRIII to be this good, but I’m glad he’s cementing himself as a player in this league.
