6 assists is the high for Landry Shamet as a Clipper. That may seem like a lot for a player like him, but it’s easy to forget, after the 76ers turned him into a pure shooter, that he did a lot of ball-handling in college. He averaged a bit over 5 assists per game in his last season at Wichita State, he was basically a point guard.
If the Clippers wanted, they could try a bit harder to recreate some of the success Shamet had passing the ball. He’s not really a pure point guard at all, but neither is anyone else on the entire roster (Patrick Beverley doesn’t count, he’s only point-guard-sized). I feel like some of the struggles the Clippers have been experience are the result of not having a coherent offensive gameplan, so I’ve got one for them: have Shamet run pick-and-rolls with Montrezl Harrell for endless lob dunks. Kawhi can be the decoy on these plays. And if the lob gets shut down, just have Shamet do a funky midrange jumper. I don’t know if he can hit funky midrange jumpers, but he can hit threes, so it’ll be fine.
I literally have no idea why I’m not a coach in the NBA right now. I’ve sent in my resume to all the teams like 50 teams without even a callback. I’ve seen people say that you need to work your way up, but why would I waste my time coaching a bunch of kids in college when my skills are ready for the big time right now? At least let me coach one of the Summer League teams, god damn it.
