After Darius Bazley scored eighteen points near the start of the season, I undertook the ritual that would cosmically transfer the “Bazed God” nickname from Kent Bazemore to Darius Bazley. However, Bazley completely failed to live up to the “Bazed God” nickname in the subsequent months, so I reversed the ritual and re-assigned the nickname to Bazemore, who isn’t very good anymore but has at least been better than Bazley.
I will not be so hasty in my nickname transferals going forward. Bazley had a really nice game tonight, but just one really nice game is not enough to go through that ritual for a THIRD time. He’s going to have to keep up this level of play, or something close to it, for at least two weeks before I even consider bestowing him again with the “Bazed God” moniker. Remember, to do the nickname transferal ritual, I have to get both players into the same physical space, AND I have to be extremely careful to shroud my identity. It takes planning to pull off and I don’t want to waste my time if Bazley is going to decide to return to being a scrub sandwich starting tomorrow.
All that said, Bazley is young and athletic, while Bazemore is now on the back end of his career, so there’s plenty of time for Bazley to rightfully become the Bazed God. He doesn’t need to rush into it. He can develop at his own place and I’ll be ready and waiting to conduct the ritual when the time is right.
