When Jeremy Lamb got to the Pacers, I had glorious visions in my mind of him being the #2 option behind Victor Oladipo. “This is it!” I thought to myself giddily. “This season, Lamb is going to score twenty points per game or close to it! Everybody will see what a potent scorer he is! The league will be forced to TAKE NOTICE!”
Now I’m sitting here all disappointed because that’s not how it’s gone for Lamb at all this season. By my reckoning, he is currently the fourth scoring option on the Pacers behind T.J. Warren, Malcolm Brogdon, and Domantas Sabonis. When Oladipo comes back, Lamb will be fifth in the pecking order, which is a considerably worse situation than any of his seasons in Charlotte (those seasons were marked by most of my video descriptions for him being about my dissatisfaction with his role in the offense).
Aaron Holiday, Doug McDermott and Myles Turner take plenty of shots too, so there’s not a lot of room for Lamb to shoulder more of the offensive load unless he really forces the issue. And the Pacers are doing so well that it’s hard to justify any single player trying to change their role in any substantial way. So this crushing sadness that I feel in response to Lamb’s tragic fate is not going to be alleviated any time soon.
