There would be more general excitement for Cam Reddish’s 14 fourth-quarter points (the same amount of points that Zion Williamson had in an ENTIRE GAME tonight, by the way), except for the fact that the Hawks were totally getting blown out while it happened. For some reason, people don’t look as favorably on performances like that when the game isn’t close, in either direction. And I don’t understand why. I mean, it’s not like it’s Reddish’s fault that the Hawks were severely out-talented by the Raptors. Well, it kinda is, because if he was a 20 ppg beast (I know at least one of you thought that he would be this season, don’t lie), the Hawks would be a lot better and would have scored more points tonight. But mostly, it wasn’t his fault.
Buckets are buckets, in my opinion. Especially for a player like Reddish, who needs all the buckets he can get. Who cares the circumstances in which they were scored? It’s not like the Raptors role-players were just letting him score. They were playing defense, as well as they could. Reddish was just getting the better of them.
This game continues the positive trend that Reddish has been experiencing lately. If you just look at his, like, last 10 games, you’d have a real solid rookie on your hands. If those were the first 10 games of his career, for example, people would be beside themselves with hype. But first impressions are everything, and the first impression everyone got of him was him bricking everything. It might take until next year before the damage of his bricktastic start is undone and people are really ready to jump on the bandwagon.
I won’t be joining them. I’ve already called him a bust a bunch of times and I can’t UN-call him a bust. Just ask John Wall.
