It seems to me that there was some strangeness going on with Marquese “Mar-Queso” “Sea-Cheese” Chriss’ contract that was on the very outermost fringes of my awareness. I think the Warriors waived him, waited for him to clear waivers, and then signed him to a different type of deal? Is that what went down?
I don’t even know what “waivers” is or how you “clear” them. After years and years of following basketball, I mostly understand how contracts work, and I know what the salary cap is. I also know what draft picks are and how they might be transferred from team to team. But “waivers”? No clue. Absolutely none. For all I know, Chriss had to navigate a physical obstacle course in order to “clear waivers”. Maybe that’s why he’s wearing the mask now.
Anyway, Chriss is still on the Warriors now because no other team wanted to pick him up while he was floating around in the NBA ether with no contract. Now we can all sit around and pretend that we’re happy that he’s in a place where he can develop as a player until the next time he gets in a random altercation over something meaningless, at which point we can all turn on him again and call him names like “Bitch-Cheese”.
